Visit to Viana do Castelo

We visited Viana do Castelo in mid March for a few days, staying at the Melo Alvim Hotel. While there we had a day excuesion by local bus to the nearby town of Ponte de Lima - the oldest town in Portugal.

The train journey to Viana do Castelo involved catching a regional train at 6:30 am in Valado dos Frades to the end of the line at Coimbra B, where we caught an Alfa Pendula express to Nine. A change back to a regional train took us to our final destination, arriving at 12:30 pm. Luckily the hotel we had booked allowed us to check in early so we were able to have a short nap before exploring the town.
