Merida, Spain

Merida is a town not far from the border with Portugal, and has some of the best preserved roman ruins in the whole of Europe. There is the longest roman bridge still in use, a couple of aquaducts, a roman theatre, an amphitheatre, a hippodrome, a temple, streets and merchants houses. Many of these are situated amongst buildings of the modern town.

We stayed in Merida for 4 nights and 1 night in Badajoz on the border.

The temperature during this trip was about 39 deg during the day falling to a low of 33 deg at night!
